The Upside-down Train Ride

As I mentioned here previously sometime early next year I'm going to be adding some videos from my home movie collection to the site. Due to bandwidth restrictions I'll probably have to use youtube to host them. Here's a quick sample: it's a shot of train ride from the 1930s that the maker decided to cut out and splice back into the original film upside-down and backwards. Given some the other films of his I have I'm sure it was completely intentional. Enjoy!

I love your site! It's fantastic! I just did a post about it on my blog. Keep up the outstanding job!

You should really post them on Archive.org. They have streaming versions of them, but allow users to download higher resolution. It would be wonderful.

Nolan- The problem with Archive.org is that as far as I know it doesn't allow me to embed them here (or on Square America) whereas whatever I post to youtube I can. What I may do is post them here via youtube first and then after a couple of months post mp4's to Archive.org. I also have to admit that I'd like to eventually put together a DVD to sell so I'm not sure I want to give away DVD-quality downloads. I spend so much money (not to mention time & effort) acquiring stuff for my collection that I can't afford to give away stuff that I might be able to make a little money on.

Hmm. Then it's possible you could upload them to Vimeo, they have an embedded player, but it has a much higher resolution than youtube.

Nolan- I'll give vimeo a try. I'll probably wind up posting 24fps mp4s to Archive.org which probably won't look look that much different than the 8mm originals.
