Mea Culpa
Sorry Folks, I meant to have a new show up at Square America by now but transferring the site over to my new computer has been a bit of a headache. Hopefully I'll have all the bugs worked out and a new show- titled Song and Dance- up in the the next couple of days. Here's a few of the photos that'll be in it.

p.s. I'm guest posting over at the always awesome Swapatorium so go on over and check it out!!!

Contact High
These photos are from a bunch of contact prints I picked up recently. While I love contact prints I do wish I had the full-size prints.

Sleep
I'm putting my creaky old computer to sleep and hopefully when it wakes up it'll be a shiny new iMac -if not it may be awhile before I post again.

Back from Vacation with Plans for the Future
Hey folks, I'm back from my little holiday vacation and I thought I'd give a little preview of what I'll be up to over at Square America in the coming months. First off I've got two new shows planned to launch in the immediate future. One will be called The Music Makers (pretty self-explanatory- photos of people playing music).

The other will be called Encountering the Other: Adventures in Amateur Ethnography and will focus on photos taken by visitors to exotic locales like this one (the back reads "Colombo Truants" I wonder what the signs actually read- judging by their costumes I'd guess they were advertising some kind of entertainment, probably a circus).

I'm not sure which I'll do first, hopefully one will be up in the next week or so with the other to follow in the first week of February.
I also hope to write a series of essays (illustrated with plenty of photos of course!) dealing with snapshots/ vernacular photography. The first one I have in mind will be called An Object Lesson and will deal with the snapshot as a physical object which can be written or drawn on, cut or torn or creased, and is subject to decay.

I've got a few others in mind- including one which will deal with the question of intent which I hope to do over the course of the next six months or so. I'll also try writing some much shorter pieces- once a week here at The Boat Lullabies I'm going to try to post a short essay on a photo from my collection.
Back at Square America I'm also thinking of incorporating slide shows at some point. I'm somewhat ambivilant about this- I'm not a big fan of them myself for a variety of reasons. What I think I'll do is put together a very short slide show of about 20-30 photos for each of the larger shows I have on the site and group them all together in one place.
I've also got another secret project in the works that I'm very excited about- hopefully there will be more information on that very soon!
If anybody has any comments/suggestions I'd be happy to hear them!
