The Road

I must apologize for how long it's taking me to get a new show up over at Square America. Right now I'm working on a show tenatively titled "The Road" which, not surprisingly, will consist of photos relating to cars and the open (and sometimes not so open) road. Hopefully I'll have the show up sometime in the next four or five days. One change you may notice is that from here on out I'll be scanning the entire photo border and all -in the past, while I never cropped the image itself, I would crop out much of the border- so now you'll be able to see all those beautiful deckled edges. Anyway here's a few photos to give you some idea of what will be in the show.

Home Movie Night!!

My friend Bohus Blahut has got his video blog Home Movie Night up and running. He'll be featuring video clips (streaming or downloaded) of old 8mm and 16mm home movies. As an avid home movie collector myself I can't wait to see what he'll show. He's got a great film some kids made starring a couple of G.I. Joe dolls up right now so head on over there and check it out!

Gallery Talk this Wednesday!!!

If any of you folks live here in the Chicagoland area I will be giving a gallery talk this Wednesday night at 6:00pm in conjunction with my show- The Innocent Eye? Amateur Photography from the 20th Century- at The Carl Hammer Gallery, 740 North Wells Street, Chicago, Illinois 60610. Laura Letinsky

I thought I'd change things up a bit and start adding a few links here and there to things I think are of interest (mostly photography but perhaps music & writing as well) on the web. I had the good fortune to see Laura Letinsky's still lifes at the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago last year and I was really knocked out.

Sighting

I was looking through Square America yesterday and I realised that I had yet to post one of my all-time favorite photos- it's this completely Arbus-like 8x10 of three girls who I can only guess had just seen a UFO. I'm guessing it's from the late 60s/early 70s but I really don't know anything about it- it's probably a press photo though there are no notes or clippings on the back (which you often find on press photos) with any further info. If anybody knows the story behind the photo please let me know.
